GAMBLING IS A PART OF THE LANDSCAPE IN OKLAHOMA
From Frontier Saloons To Old West Horse Races,
Gambling Is Tied To Oklahoma History
Whether it was horse races in the Indian nations or in many of the cowboy camps that dotted the Sooner state during the mid and late 1880s, or roulette wheels and poker games in frontier saloons, Oklahoma has long been a haven for folks who love to gamble.
Citizens of the Indian Territory often amused themselves with horse racing, and crossed the border into Texas for friendly, and not so friendly, competition with some of their southern neighbors. Throughout the 19th century, the United States didn’t restrict most gambling but the casinos of this decade were then saloons which flourished across the old West.
Today Oklahoma towns are still taking part in a gambling boom that is bringing in thousands of people and millions of dollars from neighboring states not yet set up to cash in on betting. That’s why we developed Gamble in Oklahoma, a guide on casinos, race tracks, lotteries and bingo available in the Boomer Sooner state. We also provide some great gambling tips on different games and a how-to-play information on some great online betting opportunities for U.S. citizens. In addition, Gamble In Oklahoma will provide you with all the latest news around gambling and betting in Oklahoma and a blog that keeps you up-to-date and informed about all the latest rumors and gaming coming to the state.
History of Gambling in Oklahoma
Gambling in Oklahoma was officially legalized in the early 1990s when Indian Nations opened casinos in the state. Before long the state legislature passed measures allowing the state to vote to expand gambling and today the state offers horse tracks with racinos, bingo halls, a state and multi-state lottery, and full-fledged casinos that are bringing in numerous tourists from several neighboring states.
Horse Tracks and Racinos
In the Old West, wagering on horse races was a popular form of gambling. Usually the gambling was limited to a few friendly bets between owners of horses. But today in Oklahoma there are three state of the art racinos – Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw, the Cherokee Casino and Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, and Remington Park in Oklahoma City — that feature both casino gambling and betting on the horses. In addition, the Fair Meadows Race Track in Tulsa offers simulcast racing you can bet on 7 days a week.
Lottery
It’s of little surprise that the lottery has been so successful in Oklahoma raising millions of dollars for the state’s education system. Lotteries were a favorite in the frontier times too, and even a place in the Oklahoma Land Rush was part of a lottery. Oklahoma sells lottery scratch-off tickets in addition to offering lotto games for Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Picks, Cash 5 and other lotto games.
Bingo
Many of the best casinos in Oklahoma got their start as bingo halls. Most bingo halls in Oklahoma now also offer some casino games such as slot machines in addition to pull tabs and exciting games of bingo.
